Turning Inward: Winter Nutrition Reset

Mark the change of the season with a 3 day practice to support an intentional shift within.

This is a time of year where many of us are recovering from over indulgence. Spending what we don’t have, eating what we don’t need, and taking what we don’t want are de rigueur for the holidays. Let us use the first new moon of 2021 to get a reset toward simple practices. This reset can be a wonderful gift to give yourself or an interested loved one, as well.

Each season shift of 2020, Sistermoon Wellness has shared a 3 day practice to recognize the seasonal changes in community. We are separate and together. The accountability of a group helps us to show up fully, and share what we find in our journey. In a year of more distance and isolation, these online practices help to keep us connected to one another as well as do the important work of connecting to the Self. The Self is more than the individual mind/body. The Self is a recognition of the individual’s relationship to the whole of existence. How can we pare down our consumption to what is essential and nutritive? This practice is a wonderful way to check in and adjust where needed.

I conduct a mono diet each season as a reset to my relationship with food as sacred fuel. I eat one nutritious dish called kitchari for 3 days. It’s not a fast because you eat as much as you like. But it is a reset. This winter, we will eat 3 different kitchari dishes over 3 days, as well as golden milk in the evenings. Ingredient lists are sent out a week in advance so that you have time to collect what you need from the outside world, and recipes and supportive practices are shared throughout the home retreat. Classes are all on zoom, and are recorded and can be emailed to students who are unable to join us live.

Kitchari is a delicious and nutritious Ayurvedic dish that is especially easy to digest. It is vegetarian. Local and seasonal ingredients are encouraged whenever possible. Golden milk is a warmed spiced milk which is also a wonderful Ayurvedic delight.
